- it's time -to experience the gamePB VISION IS HERE!
Coach Paul here — for a while now, I’ve been digging into PB Vision (yes, I like to geek out on analytics almost as much as I love crushing dinks). Each time, I’ve analyzed a game and had review the PB Vision “Skill Ratings” feature, each time, I’m more convinced than ever — this is hands-down the most superior rating tool for pickleball — here’s why I’m shouting it from the kitchen line!!!
WHY PB Vision BEATS THE OLD-SCHOOL RATING SYSTEMS!
IT RATES HOW YOU PLAY — NOT JUST WHETHER YOU’VE WON / LOST
Traditional rating systems like |DUPR focus on match outcomes — who won, by how much. That only tells end part of the story, and it can mask real skill. PB Vision cuts through that by analyzing gameplay itself: movement, shot quality, positioning, errors, everything.
Each game is analyzed across six key dimensions of performance:
- Offense
- Defense
- Consistency
- Agility
- Serve
- Return
Together, these sub-ratings form your overall PB Vision score, offering a deeper look at how you played, NOT simply whether you won.
That means even if you lose a tight game, but moved well, placed shots smartly, and made solid returns — your rating reflects that. As a coach, that’s gold: players get credit for GOOD PLAY, not just “W/L.”
DETAILED BREAKDOWN — 6 CORE SKILL CATEGORIES
PB Vision doesn’t just spit out a single “overall rating” — it gives six sub-ratings. The categories are Serve, Return, Offense, Defense, Agility, and Consistency.
As a coach, this is exactly the kind of nuanced feedback I crave (and need to give). You can see exactly where a player’s strengths are — and precisely where they need work. Want to tighten returns? Improve footwork? Clean up resets? PB Vision shows you that granular detail.
REAL TIME PERFORMANCE TRACKER — NOT JUST HISTORICAL RESULTS
PB Vision generates a rating for each game based on what YOU did that game.
Because of that, it becomes a progress tracker — you can literally watch yourself evolve over time. For a coach running clinics and drills (yes, that’s me), this means I can use PB Vision to objectively show students their improvement, or highlight repetitive weaknesses, instead of relying on guesswork or vague impressions.
LESS BIAS — OBJECTIVE, DATA-DRIVEN, & SCALABLE
Because it’s AI-powered and based on video + data, PB Vision bypasses a lot of the subjectivity built into outcome-based ratings or human evaluations. It doesn’t care if you’re playing with a weaker partner, getting sand-bagged, or just getting unlucky. It looks at what you did.
That makes it far more fair across different contexts — recreational play, levelled play, tournaments, mixed levels, etc… For someone coaching a wide variety of players (beginners, families, juniors, recreational, competitive), that fairness and consistency are huge.
AS A COACH, HERE IS HOW I USE (& RECOMMEND) IT
- I use PB Vision as a diagnostic tool after lessons or match play. Upload video → get sub-ratings → show students “Here’s your rally-by-rally breakdown and here’s what needs work.”
- I challenge students to treat their PB Vision score as a training benchmark: Example: “Hit the court two or three times this week, record it, and let’s see how your Consistency or Agility rating moves.”
- For players about to transition from recreational to competitive play, PB Vision gives a realistic, skills-based snapshot — not just a W/L skewed rating — so they can identify gaps before registering for tournaments or wrong levels of play.
- I use it to track long-term development (for juniors, seasoned and newer players): you don’t need big wins to measure progress — like — cleaner technique, better footwork, smarter shot selection.
MY VERDICT — AS A COACH, I’M BETTING BIG ON PB Vision
If you only care about “did I win or not,” sure — go with |DUPR. But if you truly want to understand your game, get better, and track growth, PB Vision is the future. It’s the closest thing to having a personal match-statistician reviewing every point, every shot, every move.
Because of PB Vision and the data we’ve collected, we were able to design and develop our in-house 3.5 TIER SYSTEMS, so players further understand the anomaly of the 3.5 playing level.
