🚨 A MAJOR STEP FORWARD FOR PICKLEBALL RATINGS

We’re really excited about the direction player ratings are heading.

|DUPR is beginning to recognize AI-powered video analysis, including PB ViSION, as part of the player-rating process— and we believe this is a fantastic step forward for players.

Why?

Because your ability as a pickleball player should be evaluated by more than just the final score on the scoreboard.

For years, ratings have largely been driven by things like:

• Who you played
• Their rating
• Whether you won or lost
• The final score

Those things absolutely matter.

But they don’t always tell the whole story.

THE SCORE TELLS YOU WHAT HAPPENED.

PB ViSION HELPS EXPLAIN HOW IT HAPPENED.

That’s the big difference.

PB ViSION analyzes what is actually happening throughout the match — looking at individual player performance rather than simply seeing an 11–7 result and assuming everyone on the winning team performed equally well.

Because we all know that isn’t always the case. 

You can play a fantastic match and still lose.

You can have a rough match and still win.

You can make very few mistakes while your partner struggles.

Or you can win comfortably while your partner deserves most of the credit.

The scoreboard sees 11–7.

Video analysis can see much more.

The other player may have struggled in many of those same areas.

There’s also another part of this that we think is even more valuable.

Knowing that you’re a 3.4x, 3.6x or 3.8x is useful.

But the number alone doesn’t necessarily tell you how to become better.

If somebody tells you:

“You’re a 3.478”

Okay…

Now what? 

A better player evaluation should help answer the questions that actually matter:

• What am I doing well?
• Where am I losing points?
• What skills are holding me back?
• How is my positioning?
• Am I creating too many unforced errors?
• Am I making good decisions?
• What do I need to improve to reach the next level?

That’s where PB ViSION becomes incredibly valuable.

The technology isn’t simply trying to give players another number.

It can help provide information about why that number makes sense.

And from a coaching perspective, that is incredibly powerful.

BETTER DATA = BETTER PLAYER DEVELOPMENT

This is where we believe pickleball ratings are heading.

Not replacing match results.

Improving them with better information.

The final score still matters.
Winning and losing still matters.
Competition still matters.

But now we have the ability to combine those results with a deeper analysis of what the player actually did during the match.

That means the future of player evaluation can become more:

| Useful.

And ultimately, much more helpful for players who genuinely want to improve.

We’re especially excited about this development because PB ViSION is already available at Burlington Pickleball.

Players can have their games recorded and analyzed, giving them the opportunity to better understand what is happening in their game — not simply what the final score happened to be.

For newer or unrated players, this can also provide another valuable tool for establishing a more informed starting point for their player rating.

For established players, the bigger opportunity is the detailed performance information PB ViSION provides and the direction |DUPR is moving toward as AI analysis becomes increasingly integrated into player evaluation.

And we think that direction makes a tremendous amount of sense.

And combining the two gives us a much better understanding of the player.

That’s a win for players.
