| DUPR Reset Period |

— Rating Guidelines —

During the DUPR Reset Period, players are given an opportunity to establish a more accurate rating based on recent match results.

To ensure this process works correctly, rating ranges must be respected, with a limited and intentional crossover between adjacent levels only.

Allowed Rating Crossover at BURLINGTON PiCKLEBALL

During the Reset Period:

  • Players in 2.6 events (2.xx–2.79)
  • May compete with players in 3.0 events (2.80–3.19)

This is the only permitted crossover.

WHY THIS STRUCTURE EXISTS

This limited overlap allows ratings to adjust naturally and fairly.

  • A 3.0 player competing against 2.xx players is expected to win, helping move their rating upward over time
  • A 2.xx player who performs well against 3.xx players can increase their rating and progress into higher-level events

This creates a balanced environment where players can prove their level through competitive play.

WHERE THE CROSSOVER ENDS

This flexibility does not extend beyond adjacent levels.

  • 3.0 players do not participate in 3.4 events (3.2x–3.54)
  • 3.4 players do not participate in 3.7 events (3.5x–3.8x)

As the gap between ratings increases, matches become less competitive and results become less meaningful.

PROTECTING COMPETITIVE INTEGRITY
THOSE WHO DO NOT PARTICIPATE IN DUPR Reset Period

Maintaining proper rating ranges is essential to:

  • Ensure fair and competitive matches
  • Produce accurate DUPR ratings
  • Preserve the quality and credibility of events

When players compete too far outside their rating level:

  • Matches become unbalanced
  • Ratings can be negatively impacted
  • Higher-level players are less likely to participate

BURLINGTON PiCKLEBALL APPROACH

We are committed to maintaining a structured environment where:

  • Players compete within appropriate rating ranges
  • Match results reflect true skill levels
  • Events remain competitive and enjoyable for all participants

KEY TAKEAWAY

The DUPR Reset Period is designed to allow small, controlled crossover between adjacent levels — not unrestricted play across all ratings.

Play within your range, compete at your level, and your rating will follow.
